In an interesting article in the WSJ there was clearly a trend noted in 2008 for increasing values for numeric domain sales. The article states that among the top 100 domain sales year to date, 10 are short, memorable numeric domains. Among the notable sales listed to date in 08:

Vibrators.com $1 million

TechCrunch reported this week that Vibrators.com has sold for $1 million. The article states that a privately owned company PriveCo has acquired the domain for the following listed reasons:

• It is an instantly recognizable name,
• Tied to products that people want to buy in complete privacy
• Customers will value PriveCo’s policies and services
• Competitor websites lack professionalism and tact
• PriveCo has strong experience in this field

CNN reports America.com up for auction

Tonight Lou Dobbs said America is for sale. Well, at least America.com that is.

Up for auction at great domains expected to break the previous record sale of sex.com for $12 million. We'll have to watch the progress of this one as the reserve is only listed as $1 million +.

Pharmacy.com 50 million?

Red Herring reports the owners of pharmacy.com plan to sell their domain for more than $50 million. Ron Jackson of DNJournal.com reports that the highest publically disclosed individual domain sale has been sex.com at approximately $12 million. 40z.com has found in SEC filings that IRS.com sold for $5 million in cash and $6.125 million in stock.

Jay Westerdal, CEO of Name Intelligence, according to the Red Herring article, reportedly has heard of domains selling in private transactions for $20 million or more. So what do you think? What is Pharmacy.com worth? What will it sell for?
